The topic of this talk is our recently published method to analyze frozen eye cross sections of zebrafish larvae using cryo-TOF-SIMS imaging. The combination of this novel protocol and the use of multivariate data analysis allowed the discovery of new marker ions for the retinal pigment epithelium that are attributable to leucodopachrome, a metabolite specific to the biosynthesis of eumelanin.
